Unleashing Energy
In this week’s episode of "All About Nothing," I had the pleasure of chatting with Siobhan, an inspiring instructor at The Hot Room in Glenview. After my first experience with hot Pilates, I was eager to share my thoughts—and let me tell you, it was intense!
Siobhan introduced herself as a Pilates and yoga instructor, as well as a certified personal trainer. She emphasized that her classes are not your typical Pilates sessions; they incorporate high-intensity interval training (HIIT) principles, making for a dynamic workout that keeps participants engaged and challenged. “We work in Tabatas, alternating exercises with short breaks, which keeps the pace fast and the heart rate up,” she explained.
What struck me was the diverse mix of participants in her classes, ranging from young adults to those in their 70s. Siobhan highlighted the importance of creating an inclusive environment where everyone can push their limits at their own pace. She also shared how incorporating weights and bands enhances the workout, allowing for greater strength-building and stability.
As a mother of five, Siobhan discussed how she balances family life with her passion for fitness. “Sometimes, you just need an outlet to release all that pent-up energy and stress,” she said, noting how Pilates helps her clear her head and recharge.
Before we wrapped up, Siobhan excitedly mentioned an upcoming yoga retreat in Costa Rica, where she’ll lead participants through restorative practices and excursions. “It’s a chance to recharge, whether you want to do yoga or just relax by the pool,” she said.
If you’re looking for a workout that’s anything but ordinary, I highly recommend checking out Siobhan’s classes at The Hot Room.
